We’re nearing the end of 2016, which was a busy, exciting, and eye-opening year for me.
Recently, I spoke to elementary school students on the subject of treating others equally and fairly. I asked the students, “Are you a builder, or a bulldozer?” Builders are people who strive to help others be the best they can. Bulldozers, on the other hand, try to tear people down with judgment, criticism, and lack of hope.
I’ve learned this year that I will always be a builder. (My parents didn’t raise no bulldozer!!)
Now it’s time, however, to let you know that I’m closing up my counselling shop at the end of the year.
This will come as no surprise to regular readers of my blog and newsletter: I’ve decided to reboot my career as a coach for long-distance runners!
There’s no denying that running is a major passion of mine. And in 2017, I want to build using running.
What my career change means for you
I’m wrapping up my private practice at the end of 2016 – that’s right, just 2 weeks away. I’ll be finishing up my work with existing clients but not taking new clients.
I don’t want to close down shop completely. Instead I’m going to keep my website up and running so that my content can be read and used. I still think Reality Therapy and Choice Theory are great tools for handling life, and I want people to discover them.
For people seeking counselling, however, I recommend contacting Turning Point, the international counselling center I’ve been affiliated with for more than a year. Their website is www.turning-point.se and they’re located in Stockholm.
More information about my long-distance running coaching practice (if you’re curious)
I won’t be starting my practice right away in 2017. Instead I’ll be doing some specific training in coaching while I develop my new business direction.
My plan is to use the skills I have developed over my many years of being a counsellor, and connecting this wealth of experience to coaching runners of all levels.
The coaching practice will be run with the help of a great friend who will be co-leading. I’ll introduce him in time when we are ready to announce more. What I can reveal is our coaching will include:
- A highly personalized training plan that is tailored to a runner’s needs, goals, and day-to-day life.
- Weekly online coaching feedback / emails and scheduled phone check-in calls to discuss progress and support runners’ progress
- Access to additional videos and helpful learning material to improve technique, strength, mobility, and training
- Invitations to regularly scheduled group runs and training sessions in the Stockholm area
I can’t wait to get started…but I want to get this right. So I’ll be spending the first part of 2017 planning and enjoying some family time.
