As the famous proverb says, “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
I can assure you our journey won’t be 1,000 miles! But it begins when you pick up the 100lb telephone.
Step #1: Initial contact & consultation
Contact me to set up a free 30 minute consultation in person or over the phone. I am available to meet for this consultation wherever you feel most comfortable. For students this may be school, home, a café. Anywhere we can get started helping you!
During that first consultation we’ll create a plan for our work together and set up a schedule.
Step #2: First meeting / beginning counselling.
Here we will work together to get a clearer picture of where you want to be, and how counselling can help get you there.
During this first meeting is where we lay the groundwork for a friendly and positive counselling relationship, so we can work hard together to get you on the path to wellness.
Step #3: Ongoing work towards change
During counselling sessions you will be asked to reflect, answer tough questions, and discuss openly and honestly what you are currently doing and how that fits with your picture of success. And, there will be hard work for you outside of our sessions, as you begin to make changes in your life.
This is the hard part. There’s no way around that. It’s not easy to look in the mirror so to speak and evaluate yourself.
During this step we will make what I call “Do Plans” which will provide you focus and direction once you step outside the session.
We will continuously evaluate together how well this “Do Plan” is working for you. The goal of the counselling is to get you on your own two feet, in good control of your life. I want this to happen for you as soon as possible!
Step #4: Closure and Follow up.
At this step we both agree you are in better control of your life. You are now meeting your wants and needs in more healthful, positive, and effective ways.
Follow up sessions may be recommended, to support you while you continue to practice new ways of thinking, acting, and living life. Change can feel quite unnatural and it is often easy to slip back into old ways of thinking and behaving. This is why we have some planned follow up sessions to ensure you are well on your way.
Once you are under my care you will never be turned away when you have a slip and need help.
If you have any questions or are unsure about reaching out, please contact me and we can take it from there.
